Camps
School camps are a vital part of our school program and begin in Year 2. The camping program provides a unique opportunity for students to build resilience and enjoy fantastic outdoor experiences whilst creating irreplaceable childhood memories. Positive team building, enhanced socialization and evolving independence and responsibility are just a few of the key outcomes for camp participants.
Year 2 & Year 3
Easing our middle school students into their developing world, we kick off with a sleepover night at school for our Year 2 students. Then a two night camp for Year 3 at Mt Evelyn Recreation Camp held in Term 4. Here, the students enjoy many challenging and fun activities and for many students, this is their first two night experience away from home.
Year 4
With a year already under their belt, Year 4 students embark upon a two night trip to Camp Manyung on the Mornington Peninsula. Again a wonderful, challenging and exciting program is enjoyed by the students in a beautiful coastal environment where some of the activities are based at the pristine, local beach on Port Phillip Bay.
Year 5
Approaching the senior years, Year 5 students attend a two night camp at PGL Campaspe Downs Camp near Kyneton. Campaspe Downs is an adventure camp set amid 160 acres of stunning natural bushland in the Macedon Ranges. Students participate in a range of exciting activities including abseiling, flying fox, mountain bike riding and canoeing with qualified instructors.
Students are strongly encouraged to attend camp. We see school camp as a time for students and staff to have the opportunity to bond and provide students with extension activities that cannot be catered for in the normal school environment.
The Victorian Curriculum states that students in Year 5 are required to learn about and experience a variety of outdoor adventure activities in natural environments, such as bush-walking and basic orienteering. Our camp program at Aspendale Gardens Primary School strives to achieve these outcomes.
Year 6
Enjoying their final senior year at Aspendale Gardens, our Year 6 students travel to The Summit Outdoor Adventure Camp located in Trafalgar East. This is an excellent camp venue located on 50 acres with outstanding facilities, skilful and motivated instructors and a genuine commitment to achieving target outcomes. The Summit offers customized catering, exciting, inspiring, and unique activities like High Wire, Human Foosball, Sky Bridge, Obstacle Mayhem, Snowy River Challenge and many team building initiatives.
